Design for Marriage

The first time that marriage is mentioned in the Bible is in Genesis 2:24-25 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.”

The first thing a man and woman must do when they get married is to Leave and Cleave. They are no longer two individuals but they are one entity (married couple):

-Leave means a formal parting. That means the dynamic that they had been living under as a child is over and a new dynamic as a married couple has begun.

-Cleave is to adhere to or join ones self to. A whole man and a whole woman makes a whole marriage. We must first accept Jesus Christ as our personal savior to become who God created us to be.

Accepting your forgiveness and walking in it is the key to being whole. Intimacy in marriage can be defined as in to me you see. Psalm 139: 13-16 “For you formed my inward parts you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”

Through our relationship with God we can know who we really are and who our spouse is. Together you draw each other closer to God through salvation through Jesus Christ. “And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” Ps139.24
